Kampala, Uganda – 9 April 2026
The Greater Virunga Transboundary Collaboration (GVTC) has today received a significant
boost to the implementation of the One Health Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and
Response project in the Greater Virunga Landscape, following the official handover of
project vehicles by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
Funded by the World Bank Pandemic Fund and implemented in collaboration with the
World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, the project aims to strengthen regional
capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to emerging and re-emerging zoonotic diseases
across Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The vehicles will enhance field operations, improve surveillance systems, and strengthen
cross-border coordination within the Greater Virunga Landscape.
Speaking at the ceremony, GVTC Executive Secretary, Dr. Andrew G. Seguya, stated:
“This handover represents a critical investment in operational capacity. It strengthens our
ability to respond effectively to zoonotic disease threats while reinforcing regional
cooperation and the One Health approach.”
GVTC and its partners—including WWF, Gorilla Doctors, IGCP, and IUCN—will continue to
implement targeted interventions to strengthen surveillance, community engagement, and
institutional capacity across the region.
