Dr. Andrew G. Seguya Executive Secretary of Greater Virunga Transboundary Collaboration received in Kinshasa by the Director General of Congolese Institute for Nature Conservation.

It is on this 09th August 2023, when the GVTC delegation led by  Dr. Andrew G. Seguya, Executive Secretary, was received in Kinshasa, by the Director General of the Congolese Institute for Nature Conservation (ICCN) Mr. Milan Ngangay Yves.

Their exchange has focused on the background of the Transboundary collaboration and the achievements so far registered as the result of this transboundary collaboration, including the contribution to the strengthening of ICCN staff capacity, Combatting wildlife crimes through coordinated and joint patrols, reducing human-wildlife conflicts by putting in place deterrent measures,  like electric fence, funding development project for the communities living around Virunga National Park; contribution to preserving the protected areas’ integrity: reaffirmation of the International Border between DRC and Uganda in Sarambwe. This has led to restoring this wildlife reserve while also contributing to peace and stability, etc.

The Director General has reiterated the ICCN commitment and engagement to the transboundary collaboration as they remain confident that this collaboration is paramount to promote wildlife conservation, the tourism industry and socioeconomic aspects for the benefit of the populations of the GVTC Partner States.

ICCN remains supportive to the GVTC  mandate, as it was confirmed by its leadership during that meeting.
