Delegates from GVTC Headed by Dr. Andrew G. Seguya are present in Montreal Canada, where they are following various sessions related to the conferences being organized under the framework of this Convention. Mr. Fidele Ruzigandekwe, Deputy Executive Secretary for Programs and Mr Juvenal Mukeshimana, Program Assistant and Acting Program Coordinator, are part of GVTC Delegation.<\/p>\n<p>The following are the sessions taking place at Palais des Congr\u00e8s de Montr\u00e9al<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3-5 December 2022 Fifth meeting of the Open-ended Working Group on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity<br \/>\nFramework (WG2020 5)<\/li>\n<li>7-19 December 2022 Fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity<br \/>\n(COP 15)<\/li>\n<li>Tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the<br \/>\nCartagena Protocol on Biosafety (COP-MOP 10, Cartagena Protocol)<\/li>\n<li>Fourth meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the<br \/>\nNagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-sharing (COP-MOP 4, Nagoya Protocol)<br \/>\nThis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is very important to be part of these discussions, especially that biodiversity protection is on GVTC&#8217;s agenda despite a number of threats:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\u00a0High population density\/Poor population depending on natural resources<\/li>\n<li>Climate change and invasive species affecting habitat.<\/li>\n<li>Insecurity in the region<\/li>\n<li>Limited financial resources for sustainable conservation.<\/li>\n<li>Infrastructure development<\/li>\n<li>Natural disasters and diseases<\/li>\n<li>Human-wildlife crimes: poaching, crop raiding, encroachment&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>GVTC will strive to voice out this, but also to do whatever it is in its capacity for biodiversity protection within the Greater Virunga Landscape.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Greater Virunga Transboundary Collaboration (GVTC) supports the efforts of the Convention on Biological Diversity .
