{"id":222,"date":"2022-06-10T11:15:38","date_gmt":"2022-06-10T09:15:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/greatervirunga.org\/gv\/?p=222"},"modified":"2022-06-10T11:15:38","modified_gmt":"2022-06-10T09:15:38","slug":"boosting-tourism-industry-in-the-greater-virunga-landscape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/greatervirunga.org\/boosting-tourism-industry-in-the-greater-virunga-landscape\/","title":{"rendered":"Boosting tourism industry in the Greater Virunga Landscape"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Government of Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Rwanda and the Republic of Uganda have signed a treaty known as Greater Virunga Transboundary Collaboration Treaty aiming at establishing a Transboundary Collaboration Framework for Programs and activities on Wildlife Conservation and Tourism Development within the Greater Virunga Landscape among the Partner States without ceding and or affecting the respective sovereign rights over the protected areas under their respective territorial jurisdiction.<\/p>\n<p>This Greater Virunga Landscape is globally recognized as a biodiversity hotspot and habitat for rare and endangered wildlife species, such as mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, African Elephants, Lions, hippopotamus, etc. with three World Heritage Sites (the Virunga NP, Rwenzori Mountains, and Bwindi NP), two Man &amp; Biosphere Reserves (MAB, namely the Queen Elizabeth NP and Volcanoes NP), as well as RAMSAR sites (Lakes Georges and Edward).<\/p>\n<p>Given the importance of this region and the mandate of GVTC, Dr. Andrew G. Seguya Executive Secretary for Greater Virunga Transboundary Collaboration has committed to boost tourism in this region.<\/p>\n<p>It is in this respect that he has initiated meetings with tourism actors in order to discuss about actions to be undertaken to achieve that objective of boosting tourism in the Greater Virunga Landscape.<\/p>\n<p>On March 18, 2022, Dr. Andrew G. Seguya, accompanied by Mr. Albert Kasozi, Chief Executive Officer of Association of Uganda Tour Operators who is in Rwanda since March 16, 2022, have meet officials of Rwanda Tourism Chamber.
