The 22nd Conference of Parties (COP 22) is held in Marrakech (Morocco) from the 7-18th November 2016 under the United Nations and is focused on the theme “Climate Changes”. The COP 22 follows the previous one held in last year whose agreement entered into force on the 4th November 2016. COP 22 aims at “developing operational plans and tools in the framework of the Paris-Lima, and Paris-Marrakech”, as stated by the Minister of Environment in Morocco, Madame Hakima El Haite, in Lima, in 2014. As she said, “Lima is negotiations COP, Paris is decisions making COP”, while the COP 22 will be “the action conference”. It should be noticed that Morocco hosted the COP 7 in 2001 and is currently honored to host the COP 22 that involves strategic challenges and opportunities related to global warming reduction.
Between 25 000 and 30 000 participants are expected to attend the COP22, among them 13000 participants accredited by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), 1500 journalists, 8000 delegates from civil society as well as worldwide representatives.
In order to increase the awareness of stakeholders and worldwide public, an anthem named” Our Home” was composed by the Moroccan musician Ferdaous, aiming at increasing awareness of countries, their rulers and governed citizens to take action against the climate change and its negative impacts. In this regard, the COP 22 aims at increasing the “green funds” opportunities in specific sectors such energy, sustainable land use in agriculture, with a particular focus on African continent where most of important ecosystems are located, taking into consideration their impact on the global climate sustainability.
