The Second Kwita Izina Conversation on Conservation is held at Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village, in Kigali (Rwanda), from the 29th to the 30th August 2016.
Experts and stakeholders from Rwanda and several foreign countries are discussing and debating to find solutions to the conservation challenges currently faced by Rwanda and African countries. The main topics for this second conversation on conservation are (1) survival of Rwanda’s Ecosystems and their species, with a case study for future success; (2) sustainable development goals and conservation of Africa’s Ecosystems. How to grow and protect biodiversity?; (3) Arresting the illegal wildlife trafficking in Africa- What is your role?
The 2nd Kwita Izina Conversation on Conservation was opened on the 29th August 2016 by Hon. Francis Gatare, the Chief Executive Officer of the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) who gave the welcome remarks and presented the Guest of Honor, the Right Honorable Anastase Murekezi, the Prime Minister of Rwanda, who took the floor to present the objectives and outcomes of the 2016 Conversation on Conservation.
Dr José Kalpers, Global Expert in Biodiversity Conservation from Australia, gave a presentation on the Survival of Rwanda’s Ecosystems and their species through a case study for future success.
The Rwanda Conservation report was presented by Ms. Belise Kariza, the RDB Chief Tourism Officer and President of the GVTC Board.
The introductory remarks were followed by discussions through panels and Hon. Professor Ephraim Kamuntu, the Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities of Uganda was among the panelists.
It should be noticed that these second conversation on conservation are held before the 12th Kwita Izina, a gorilla naming ceremony, which has to be organized in Kinigi, Musanze District, on the 2nd September 2016.
