On the 14th March 2016, at La Palme Hotel in Musanze (Ruhengeri), GVTC organizes a two-day workshop to discuss with its partners form Clemson University (USA) the concept of the Information Center of Excellence intended to be implemented at GVTC this year. Dr Allan and Dr White are the Experts from Clemson University who attended the workshop.
The main aim of the workshop is to develop common work plan for taking forward the technical Implementation of the center of Excellency to assess specification of materials , tools and software need for improving data management and delivery of information.
The main objectives of this workshop consist of (i) defining the concept of Center of Excellence (CoE) in respect to GVTC mandate, roles and responsibilities; (ii) articulating the components of the CoE; (iii) establishing the CoE development Process; (iv) developing the outputs and activities along the development process pass; (v) developing action plan (work plan-budget and time schedules) based on the available resources; and finally (vi) laying strategies for funding the CoE.
In his welcome remarks, Dr Georges Muamba Thsibasu, the Executive Secretary (ES) of GVTC noted that this Information Center of Excellence is highly needed to support conservation initiatives and procte biodiversity against several threats in the Greater Virunga Landscape. The GVTC ES recalled that the Virunga Landscape is hotspot of numerous endangered species in the world and since human life depends on biodiversity we have to protect biodiversity to protect and promote human life.
He also thanked experts from Clemson University who attended this workshop to explain the concept of a Information Center of Excellence so that participants may have a good understanding of the importance of have access to available and reliable data or information on conservation.
According to Dr Georges Muamba, the Information Center of Excellence is a concept he brought at GVTC as Executive Secretary and he is very happy to realize that this dream is becoming a reality.
Mr. James Byamuka, the GVTC Programs Manager, explained to participants the goals, mission and achievements of GVTC, while pointing out how the Information Center of Excellence is one of the sources of income to GVTC, therefore it has been conceptualized along the a business model.
