GVTC Extraordinary Board Meeting


The Extra-ordinary meeting of the Board of Directors of the Greater Virunga Transboundary Collaboration (GVTC) was held on the 25th Nov.2018 at Serena Hotel, in Kigali (Rwanda). It was chaired by Mr. Eugene Mutangana, from RDB-Rwanda, representing the President of the Board of Directors, Madam Belize Kariza.
Participants from the three GVTC Partner States (Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo) discussed, among other topics on the agenda, (i) the financial sustainability of GVTC; (ii) the review and adoption of Zero Poaching Strategy; (iii) the composition of the GVTC Regional Technical Committees; (iv) the GVTC Councils of Ministers Meeting to be held on the 27th Nov. 2018; as well as the (v) the coalition partners conference for peace building and security through the enhancement of the transboundary management of natural resources in the Greater Virunga Landscape, that will be held on the 26th Nov. 2018, in collaboration with the Office of the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General for the Great Lakes Region.
In their closing remarks, Board members expressed their commitment to promoting the transboundary collaboration and ensuring that GVTC keeps operating. Therefore, they congratulated GVTC for facilitating the meeting and invited the GVTC Secretariat to implement the recommendations as provided by the Board meeting.
