On the 23th February 2015, GVTC held a meeting on the Strategic Environment Assessment (SEA) in Kigali (Rwanda) at GVTC office. The training was funded by SIDA (Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency) and implemented by NIRAS and the Centre for Environment and Sustainability of Gothenburg University in Sweden. Dr Anders Ekbom, the Deputy Director for Environment and Sustainability (GMV) from the Chalmers University of Technology and University of Gothenburg (Sweden) was the mentor for that useful training meeting aimed at GVTC partners’ awareness raising on the environment management. Mr James Byamukama, the GVTC Programs Manager is now the focal point for this training in Rwanda.
The reason why this training program is implemented is to maintain environmental quality & natural assets for development while leading partners to analytical and participatory approaches that aim to integrate environmental consideration into policies, plans and programs as well as evaluate the inter linkages with economic and social considerations.
The SEA training helps participants and conservation partners to address cumulative, spatial impacts; to integrate environment in their strategic planning; to inform, influence and improve decisions (in terms of policies, plans & programs) and not to produce report on Strategic Environment Assessment. So, the impact requires commitment, participation and exchange of participants who are currently from Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Zambia, Rwanda, etc.
Participants are generally individuals, organizations, governmental agencies, and the GVTC SEA training meeting has been attended by GVTC partners selected from the Chiefs Park Wardens from Rwanda and Uganda.
