GVTC Staff trained on Gender mainstreaming in Conservation

From the 10th to the 11th October 2016 GVTC are attending a special training focused on the gender mainstreaming in conservation, at Quiet Haven Hotel, in Nyarutarama, Kigali (Rwanda). The main objectives of this two –day training are as follows: understanding the gender concepts, towards a common language; defining a GVTC strategy on gender in conservation, designing a gender sensitive communication, and elaborating an action planning for interventions to be implemented in the forthcoming months to improve gender sensitive conservation within the Greater Virunga Landscape.
Gender concern has to be understood as needs that arise from gender division of roles and of labor while gender-blind is the lack of recognition of gender differentials. About gender discrimination, this is understood as the different treatment given to one gender over the other, and gender equality deals with women and men having equal rights, responsibilities, duties, and status, which does not necessary mean that women and men are the same, but rather equality between men and women at various levels: equal materials welfare, equal access to resources and opportunities, e value system on the belief in equality, equal participation in decision making, and equal control over resources and benefits.
Trainers are Ms. Gerry van der Hulst and Mr. Jan Willem from the Three Mountains, a training company from the Netherlands and based in Kigali.
